She sat next to me in Standard Four. I got number 1 in the mid-term exam while she’s the second, hence the pairing. She was just transferred from a Chinese school (which coincidentally just besides my house) to our school and our friendship budding from that very moment.
We even have a group name back then. But we were the closest in the lot. Whenever I need a chin-up, I’ll runaway and spend the night at her house. Our family know us too well and each of them trusted each of us the most.
After UPSR, we both applied for the Yayasan Selangor scholarship but she got it while I didn’t. We were separated that time. I went to a school in the rural Raub while she spend her time in the cosmopolitan. But that never change a thing; we keep on writing every passing week. (I remembered that she sent me a letter which consist of a whole wrapping paper!) We never grew tired of updating stories to one another. Every single detail is being laid out in pieces of papers.
Time passes by.
We got admitted to the same Uni! But this time we already knew that we weren’t as close as before, but we didn’t become rival or something like that. At the Uni, we have different sets of friends but we keep on exchanging stories, birthday gift every passing year and becoming shoulder to cry on whenever one of us is feeling down. Our topics vary from schoolcrushes, to family matters, to studies and later on boyfriends. It becomes a silent tradition when one of us have a spanking new boyfriend, we must bring him for the meeting-up session and approval of one another is crucial this time. Hehe.
We finished our Diploma with flying colours (well, atleast she did) and we moved on to the same Uni after that. I pursue my degree while she took her ACCA. But still, we didn’t manage to catch up every single day so we made it a point on meeting up at least once a month to update on each other’s whereabouts.
When we are in the working industry, things haven’t changed but they never quite the same. Whenever one of us need a loan, the other one will be so helpful lending out some money.
She hasn’t been there all the time, but she’s there when I need her. And vice versa. That is what mattered the most.
Reason I write this? She’ll be tying the knot tomorrow (Friday 16th Oct 09) at 3.30pm and I couldn’t be there. But she sure as heaven know that I’ll be there on her reception the next day! Am happy for you dear. I remembered we used to talk who among us will get hitched first. Hehe. You hold the trophy now.
I love you dear MIRA MASTURA MOHAMAD. Although we never see eye-to-eye all the time, but we are meant to last 🙂
